Is President Obama: Grandma, Apple Pie and Baseball?

There’s not a more distinct American cultural-trifecta, than Grandma, apple pie and baseball. Personally, as a boy, visiting my Grandma, eating her apple pies and playing baseball for the Oak Island Bombers, is a great-deal of who I am as an American today. As I look back at these memories, this was a very big part of my youth. They are fond memories and all three are quintessentially American.
How much of the American cultural-trifecta played a part in President Obama’s childhood? I don’t think many people know other than the President himself. Some of Mr. Obama’s early life is nebulous due to circumstances that he could not control. While many boys are playing baseball in America from the age of 4 to 12; what was Mr. Obama doing? From the age of 6 to 10, he was in Indonesia with his mother and step-father. Was he playing baseball? No. Was he visiting his grandmother? No. Was he eating apple pie. I don’t think so. Mr. Obama was probably doing what young Indonesian boys do; what-ever that may be.
Did the absence of American cultural-traditions in Mr. Obama’s formative years influence his sometimes negative opinion of the United States? Perhaps it has. However, even if it didn’t, the absence of these American cultural-traditions in his formative years has contributed to his lack of a real understanding of the American spirit.
Today, nearly one-year into Mr. Obama’s presidency, he finds himself at an all-time low in the polls for a new president. Many who voted for him, now regret that decision in part because of his American-cultural insensitivity. There are several examples of his attitude towards the nation which can be sited as non-American thought. One of the most obvious and recent actions that the President has enacted is his belief that it is alright to bring the terrorists of 9-11 to New York City for a civilian trial. With this directive he is surely on the wrong side of history and sorely mistaken. He is misjudging how the American people feel about this trial. This action would not be done by somebody who grew up: Grandma, apple-pie and baseball.
While traveling abroad, our president feels the need to bow to certain heads-of state in the greeting ritual. As far as I know, Mr. Obama is the only sitting U.S. president to show such subservience. This type of action also would not be done by somebody who grew up: Grandma, apple-pie and baseball.
If your household was deep into debt, how would you get out of that debt? Would you spend even more money than your current cash-flow? No, of course you would not. Most prudent people would not even go there. But again, our president is on the verge of bankrupting our nation with his massive domestic-spending. This fiscal insanity would not be done by somebody who grew up: Grandma, apple pie and baseball.
Finally, perhaps the most perplexing action or lack of exhibited by Mr. Obama is his refusal to place his hand over his heart during the playing of our national anthem. The lack of an American flag-pin on his jackets also is a telling reminder that our president is not and never has been an American that grew up: Grandma, apple pie and baseball.
By-the-way folks, did you see Mr. Obama throw-out the first pitch at the All-Star game in St. Louis this past summer? I rest my case folks.
And Grandma, thanks for all those apple pies many years ago.
