The Kitsap Sun reports they carried a banner that said, “Disarm Now Plowshares: Trident: Illegal and Immoral.”

Navy spokesman Chris Haley says an alarm went off when the group entered at 6:30 a.m. Monday, and they were arrested on suspicion of trespass and destruction of government property, cited and released.

The five are identified as 81-year-old Catholic priest Bill Bischel of Tacoma, 83-year-old nun Anne Montgomery of New York City, 65-year-old Susan Crane of Baltimore, 60-year-old Lynne Greenwald of Bremerton and 60-year-old Steve Kelly of Oakland, Calif.

It makes no sense to spend half of every federal tax dollar on warmaking. And even with those resources for warmaking, the soldier themselves don’t have proper protective gear, or proper help when they get out, and are ordered to fight in illegal and senseless wars.

Additionally, nuclear weapons are indiscriminate killers of civilian populations, and are against all international laws of war.

Susan although your heart seems to be in the right place, your facts are a little bit off. One of the few things that the Constitution of the United States of America allows the Federal Government to raise and spend tax dollars on. The Fed’s do not spend half of every tax dollar taken in on war or the military.
Secondly, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are not illegal or senseless. We didn’t go looking for the fight in Afghanistan; it came to our shores on September 11, 2001. Even President Obama says that he believes that the war in Afghanistan must be won. The fight in Iraq was not a war of choice as the left likes to say. The whole worlds intelligence services, and most of Sadam’s own generals thought that Iraq possessed chemical and biological weapons. And not only did the 9/11 Commission say that there was a link between Sadam’s regime and terrorists, but in the movie “Iraq & Beyond” an Iraqi general talks about the 4,000 members of al qaeda that were training in Iraq or months; for the fight against American troops that the Iraqi’s knew were on the way.
