With everything that has gone on with Gov. Sarah Palin’s family, especially the bad joke about a baseball player ‘knocking up’ a 14 year old, should other children of politicians be fair game?  One could say that Melia Obama has put herself squarely in the arena of political debate by wearing shirts with a clear political meaning.

I mean couldn’t you see comedian/political commentator Glenn Beck doing his opening monolouge and saying something like, “Melia Obama was seen walking through Rome with a glow that exposed her night with Duece Bigelo male gigalo, I hope she used protectetion!”  Nah, I couldn’t see it either; Glenn has way too much class!

Miss Obama’s peacenik T-shirt sends a message to G8 leaders

Barack Obama’s eldest daughter has a clear message for her father – it’s time to get rid of the world’s nuclear weapons.

Just 48 hours after the U.S. President shook hands with Vladimir Putin over an agreement to reduce their stockpile of nuclear weapons, Malia spotted out wearing not one, but two anti-nuclear T-shirts.

The 11-year-old wore tops bearing the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament’s famous symbol as her father prepared for three days of G8 talks in Italy.

She wore a grey T-shirt to visit the Colosseum in Rome with mother Michelle and sister Sasha, seven, and then appeared to have whipped it off to reveal a mottled white and grey top also bearing the CND logo.

The symbol, designed for the CND in 1958, is now widely used as to signify peace and is also an international sign for anti-war protesters.

The Obama’s spent two days in Moscow this week meeting President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

There the America and Russia agreed a landmark deal to reduce their stockpile of nuclear weapons.

The ‘joint understanding’ would see the two countries – which between them possess 95 per cent of the world’s nuclear firepower – cut the number of warheads to around 1,500 from current levels above 2,200.

At the height of the Cold War both sides had some 40,000.

And it seems Malia was a fan of the agreement, though the deal is a ‘guide’ for negotiators as the nations work toward a replacement pact for the START arms control agreement, which expires in December.

The CND, a British campaign, aims to rid the world of nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction.

In April, Obama made a speech in Prague committing to nuclear disarmament which was ‘warmly welcomed’ by the CND.

They have also welcomed this week’s agreement between Russia and the States, claiming the ‘first step has been taken’ in abolishing nuclear weapons.

His family are now accompanying him at the G8 in the Italian town of L’Aquila for three days of talks on global issues such as climate change, trade and financial reform with Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan,and Russia.
